Hey there, My name is Wes, and I'm a RN for Northside Cherokee ICU, up there. And I was recently asked, "Why did I choose Northside and why did I choose the ICU and what makes me stay?" And I'll tell you what, and I've been a nurse for 20 years, I have done a lot of stuff. I've worked ER, ICU in the last 13 years, I worked transport on an ambulance as a nurse, and I got to see a lot of hospitals. I got to see what I liked and what I didn't like, and so I was really picky about if I was coming back to a hospital and moving out to Georgia, I came from California, I really had something specific in mind. I wanted a really nice facility. I wanted to work with a great team. I wanted the culture to be something where we put patients first, staff would join arms, and we would fight for our patients, and there was just a comradery. I wanted to have supplies. I know it sounds funny, but I've worked for a lot of places where we just didn't have supplies available. Nobody was taking charge or initiative to take care of those things, so I had all that in mind and I wanted great leadership and growth. And so when we, my wife and I, decided to come out here, she's a nurse as well, and we visited, and I interviewed at three different facilities out in the north Georgia area, and I went and I kind of went undercover. And I went to these facilities and I started asking the staff, "Hey, what do you think about working here?" I had one place that said run. I had other places that you could just tell. I walked up to the greeting desk at one of 'em, they didn't even acknowledge that it was there. And then I came, I saw people wearing these Northside shirts. Let's see here. These guys, they're everywhere, they're comfortable, they got great designs and styles, it's fun to wear. So I saw people wearing these shirts and I started asking 'em, "What do you think about Northside?" And everybody, positive attitude, said, "This is a fantastic place to work. If you get the opportunity and they take you in, do it." So I thought, all right, I'm gonna go interview. So I interviewed at the other places just to see what they were paying. Came over to Northside and got the same pay and I got a great place to work, and I haven't been happier. So I work for the ICU, again, great team. Everything that I had hoped for and wanted came true. It's a beautiful campus. I don't know if you can see it all back there. And we're growing. There's always learning opportunities. I now teach, I am a preceptor, a mentor. I do all kinds of stuff, so come work with me. Come be a part of the team. And I guarantee you, you, you're not gonna regret it. All right, take care.
