May is National Pet Month, and we wanted to do something that recognizes the impact our pet family makes on the lives of our Northside Hospital family members, and also showcase their contributions to the work/life balance we strive for at Northside. Each of the stories come directly from our team members and are told in their own voices. They are genuine and heartfelt, and give you a glimpse into the kind of people who are behind our growing health care system, people such as Melissa Wilcox from our Imaging Center in Duluth.
Melissa Wilcox’s story: “We adopted our Dalmatian/Husky mix, Dottie, four years ago from the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. She is such a loving treasure to our family and was a wonderful sister to our 17-year-old Husky, Tsuki.
When our beloved Tuski passed in October, we were not sure if we were ready for another pet, but fate had another plan in store for us. A family member contacted us to let us know that she had a litter of Husky puppies born the same day of our Tsuki’s passing.
We took that as a sign and eight short weeks later we adopted Dash! Anyone who knows myself and my family will know that even though I don’t have children, my “fur babies” bring so much joy and comfort to our lives! They provide therapy by lifting spirits and bringing happiness to everyone around them!”
