Northside has “Pawtential”:
Paws and Purrs

May is National Pet Month, and we wanted to do something that recognizes the impact our pet family makes on the lives of our Northside Hospital family members and also showcase their contributions to the work/life balance we strive for at Northside. We hope you enjoy seeing and reading about them. Each of the stories is told in the voices of team members such as Blair, a Medical/Surgical Manager. They are genuine and heartfelt, and give you a glimpse into the people who are behind our growing health care system.

Blair’s story: “Avett came into my life four years ago and things have never been the same! For the first 22 years of my life, I always had cats and dogs. That changed after I graduated from college.

For six years, I had roommates who were allergic to animals, so I was “animal free.” After moving into a condo alone, I decided it was time to get another pet.

My sister would constantly send me pictures of animals that needed good homes, but none spoke to me until I saw his tiny face. I knew then he was the one! Avett was named after my favorite band, The Avett Brothers, and from day one has been my best friend!

He is my shadow as he follows me around the house, my love bug when he curls up in my lap and my playmate when he pounces on me from around corners! He makes me smile every day and shows me unconditional love, no questions asked.

I can’t imagine life without him! He has a brother and sister pups, Happy and Grace, which I took on as my own after I got married. Our house is one full of purrs and paws, and that will be the case forever!”
