We are thrilled about the smooth transition and great reaction to the opening of the new Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton. We built the hospital for you, and we’re excited to be providing great care there now.
Starting at 5am May 6, staff members began an eight-hour move of patients, staff and equipment from the old location at 201 Hospital Road to the new hospital at 450 Northside Cherokee Boulevard.
It didn’t take long for us to welcome our first baby at the new Women’s Center, either! At 10:55am, Estela Diaz-Ramirez gave birth to a baby girl. The next day, Lusi Holt delivered a baby boy named Maverick.
The new $280 million hospital has twice the size of the old facility, with 105 beds and 1,650 parking spaces situated on 50 acres. It’s everything you would expect from a 21st Century hospital and more.
Although we were proud of the care we gave the community at the older facility, it had been built in 1960 and the community had outgrown it. In addition to providing great care, the new campus also will be an economic engine for the area. Right now, we employ 1,700 people and the new facility is expected to generate another 300 jobs.
Although it isn’t easy to move an entire hospital, everything went according to plan. “It was almost flawless,” Hospital CEO Billy Hayes told local news outlets.
We’re excited for the future of the new Northside Hospital Cherokee, and the opportunity to give even better care to our community. This is your hospital, and we hope you’re as proud of it as we are.
