There are thousands of stories Northsiders could tell about why they chose to work in health care, but not many resonate the way that Ginger Rock’s story does.
Ginger is a skilled nurse in our bariatric medical surgical unit, assisting those who need to lose significant amounts of weight to help regain their health. For Ginger, this is more than just a job. It’s a calling, brought home by her own experience.
The work and the patients mean so much to her she can’t even talk about it without getting choked up.
“These people,” she says, fighting back tears, “are MY people. And I know how hard it is to be in a 400-pound body.”
Ginger fought her own battle with obesity and now she provides others with the experience, strength and hope to fight their battles and be free from the physical and emotional pain that come from being overweight.
“I know I can help them,” she says. “It’s my passion.”
To say Ginger loves her job would be an understatement. In addition to her work with patients, she also says her colleagues are “like a family” and that Northside is the only place she would want to be.
Ginger, we are glad you’re with us, and we know the patients whose lives you touch are as well. You make us all very proud to be Northsiders.
